We are thrilled to say that our company has been nominated as the 2022 Chemical Week Sustainability Awards - Best Recycling/Circularity Initiative by S&P Global. The nomination is the reflection of our commitment to insist on innovation and sustainable development.
The technology is the world first MDI waste brine recycling technology, which fundamentally solve the problem of mass waste brine generation and following treatment burdens. The process realizes the circulation of chlorine and sodium, and also provides a green source of raw material for the chlor-alkali industry. The process features high purification rate, simple process flow, environmental friendship and lower operating costs (30%) compared to the conventional sea disposal approach.
Wanhua plans to apply the waste brine recycling technology on its future isocyanate facilities. It is anticipated that in the next 5-10 years, the total amount of waste brine reused within the company will be over 4 million tons annually. Globally, there are more than 10 million tons of waste brine generated every year just by MDI production sites. If this technology is licensed to all of them, a total of 1.5 million tons of sodium chloride products can be obtained from the waste, with a total 450 kT of CO2 emissions reduction.
As the only nominated Chinese company, we hope to drive the circularity transformation within the value chain and play the responsible role in protecting the environment.
